It happened again…

akazkid

It happened again today.

Actually it happens almost every clinic visit.

In all reality it happened often in the hospital also when we were inpatient as well.

The doctor apologized for staring.

Today after the doctor was done checking Avery out and making sure all our meds didn't need refills she just stood in the door watching Avery for several minutes.

Avery was playing playdoh and running back and forth from the table to the bed to grab a snack. She would giggle with Ambee, say excuse me every time she walked past the doctor and was just being two.

I love to watch the doctors watch Avery. They start with a quizacle look. Then it transition into this deep thoughtful face, followed by a chuckle under their breath and then this sweet smile. They literally shake their heads like they were in a trance and say 'oh sorry! It's nice to see her doing so well.'

Today when the doctor came out of the trance she asked 'she really is doing great isnt she?'

I proceeded to tell her that besides her knowing medical terminology at the age of two, she is a happy, healthy, typical two year old girl. You would never guess she is undergoing treatment unless you knew her story.

The doctor then chatted with me for several minutes about how this isn't typical. She says that Avery does the exact opposite of what she expects. She prepares herself for someone tired and ornery due to where Avery is in the treatment plan, then she walks in to Avery inviting her to a dance party. Or she expects Avery to be coughing, running a fever and just feeling over all icky and she walks down the hallway to see her having a race with her sister to see who can bunny hop the quickest to our room. She kept exclaiming 'Avery really is doing remarkable. None of this phases her.'

I am so blessed and honored to be witnessing this miracle and testimony.

Many of the nurses come along side us quickly speaking the same truths that we do. I am pretty sure they would be shocked to see Avery come into clinic like a typical patient.

The doctors are a little harder. They have seen so much and believe science so much that Avery sometimes baffles them. But in the last month I have started to see and hear the doctors start speaking the truth we know about Avery, that she is healed and whole. They call it the 'Avery way', which I correct them and say the Avery and God way. They rarely tell me what to expect anymore because with Avery they don't know what to expect anymore besides the fact that she will be doing great!

God is so good. And watching other people see God through Avery is a feeling and sight I never want to forget.

Avery, Amberlynn and I spent 5 1/2 hours at the clinic today.

We brought bagels for everyone.

Showed off our new lily pad (I'll explain about this later).

Avery got a lumbar puncture with chemo, and IV chemo and a IVIG infusion.

We ate lunch, played playdoh, went for walks, watched TV, played ABC mouse and PBS Kids, and shared God's light.

We had music therapy.

We said hello to about 25 clinic staff that stopped by there room just to say hi to Avery.

Both girls cried around the 4 hour mark because they were ready to go home for nap time.

But we made it home in one piece, knowing that on Friday we will have finished phase 6 and we are moving onto phase 7 as soon as Avery's numbers rebound.

We have 3 more days of chemo this week, but luckily they are all with our home nurses.

We can see the finish line. Our clinic family can see the finish line. And let me tell you we are all getting ready to celebrate and celebrate big!!!
